Ridgewood Neighborhoods

The Village of Ridgewood is divided into a few sections and neighborhoods

The Lawns:

This area was developed in the 1940’s providing affordable housing to the soldiers that returned from the war. Cape Cods homes, designed in such a way that offer 2 bedrooms on first and second floor. Many of these Capes later turned into Colonials. This is the most affordable neighborhood in Ridgewood. Typically, these capes are:

  • At the east side of The Lawns, the Saddle River runs along.
  • Saddle River County Park is near The Lawns and is 577 acres.
  • This 6 mile park links five major areas for walking, rollerblading, biking, picnic areas, tennis courts, a playground, ball field and three ponds. 

The Heights:

  • Being distinguished by the elevation, the larger area of northern and western area of Ridgewood is The Heights. The “Ridge” begins close to station in the center of the Village and then runs along the rail line towards north.  The Heights covered the entire area of west ridge. Crest Road, Phelps Road,, Fairmount Road are the most prestigious roads in The Heights. Homes are valued over $4 Million at the Crest and will give you a stunning view of the Skyline of Manhattan.
  • With most renowned schools at south and northern side of The Heights along with recreational places like tennis courts (West Glen Avenue and North Monroe Street), a public park, ball fields and a sledding hill (Citizen’s Park at Godwin Avenue and South Monroe Street). You can find most homes valued between $700,000 and $2,500,000.

Wastena Park:

  • Ridgewood Development and Construction Company had created this park in 1907. Ridgewood Development and Construction Company was responsible for initiating and developing a number of projects during the development of different parts of Ridgewood. Westena Park was initially designed Westena Lodge, a community developed park and central gathering place.

Salem Ridge:

Salem Ridge was developed in the 1950’s and is east of Route 17. It is a little different from the rest of the Village of Ridgewood. 

  • The property sizes are relatively larger.
  • Ho-Ho-Kus to the North, Washington Township to the East, and Paramus to the South has been bounded by this area.
  • Eastbrook, Westbrook, Bingham, Norgate, Roslyn and Eastgate are the streets in the Salem Ridge section of Ridgewood
  • Price varies from $400,000 to $1,000,000 in Salem Ridge. This area consists of Ranches and Cape Cods and Bilevels.
  • Salem Ridge gives you a glimpse of the Ackerman Naugle house which they say was started in 1692. However, most homes were built after the 1940s. 
  • Glen School in Salem Ridge is the home of the Infant Toddler Development Center and the Ridgewood Early Developmental Program

Old County Club:

  • At the southwest section of Ridgewood, you find the Old County Club Section. The area is divided into four sections - Rock Road at the South, Lincoln Avenue at the east, Godwin Avenue at the north and Goffle Road at the west.
  • In the Early 1900’s, this neighborhood was the site of the country club. Most homes in the Country Club Section cost from the $800,000s to approximately 2 million. Most of these homes were built in the 1940’s and 1950's. 

Somerville Area:

  • Somerville Elementary School is obviously located in the Somerville section, which is one of the highly desirable elementary schools in Rigdgewood. 
  • Regardless of no defined boundary, North/South Van Dien Avenue and North/South Pleasant Avenue are main south and north thoroughfares while the main east/west route include East Ridgewood Avenue.
  • The price of Somverville homes vary. You can find pre-1900 Victorian homes at Brookside Avenue with the minimum cost of $700,000. There are early 1900's colonial homes, cape cods and a few ranches in Somerville.
  • The Hopper Ridge Community of Townhomes is located in the Somerville Section of the Village.
  • In the heart of Somerville you will find Ridgewood high school. You can find world class facilities like it's sport stadium, artificial turf running track and tennis court. On the north side, you will find Valley Hospital. 
  • The Duck Pond, part of the Saddle River County Park, provides recreation to the area with fishing, shelters, biking, a playground and a walking trail. Camp Sunshine & Camp Snowflake are based in the park and offer supervised recreational programs. At the northwest corner you will find the Ridgewood Library, Graydon Pool, Ridgewood Borough Hall and the Ridgewood Band Shell.

Transportation

Ridgewood has a smooth transit system. Within the town you can found local city buses and a train station. 

Bus lines:

  • To travel all around NYC NJ Transit no. 175 passes by upper Manhattan via GW Bridge 
  • NJ Transit no. 163 &164 runs to Port Authority at 8th avenue and 42nd Street through Lincoln Tunnel in Manhattan with an average of 60 minutes.
